no the fading is just it drying out, if it was positive when you take it, it's still positive, I recently found my test from my son who is 1 1/2 and it wasn't that faint when I took it (I remember, I scanned it lol) anyway it looks negative now.. and he's climbing the couch as we speak lol

It might sounds a bit crude, but I think when the pee evaporates or dries, the line fades. I don't think a line is any less a line even after it's faded. (I know this because with my last pregnancy, I was in shock that I was pregnant. That test stayed in my bathroom for a couple of days and I kep looking at it to see if it was really true... it was.)
Now negative tests shouldn't be read after the first 5-10 minutes (which ever the directions on the box say). Negatives can turn into false positives and into false hopes or fears if you read them after too long.

The reason that the tell you to read the test within a certain time frame is for that reason as well as for the fact an evaporation line may appear. If it came up positive then assume your pregnant, and book an appointment with your family dr to confirm and start prenatal care. You can have a false negative, but never a false positive in pregnancy as the hcg hormone is only produced when pregnant. However you may have a pos. and then start to bleed a few days later, which is when the egg never properly implanted any now a miscarriage has happened. That is why they say to wait until after a missed period to test. Good luck and congrats

Usually, the box that goes to the home pregnancy test will say that the reading will become invalid after about 10- 20 minutes.

Depends on the test, just take it again! They are sometimes false negatives, but hardly ever a false positive.

no, it's supposed to fade. don't worry, if you had a positive and you WANTED it to be positive...it's still positive. likewise if it was negative...
