when i got my hamster (a male teddy) from the shelter i was warned that he was biting a lot.
an awful lot.
he bit me once, in the nine months i had now, when i surprised him.

the difference? in the shelter (and most likely the ppl who owned him before) brushed him regularly (daily) and he really looked gorgeous, like a dragon with wings on his back.
instead of brushing him, i decided to try to put a bowl full of sand in his cage (admittedly not a Crittertrail 1 >:) and even though it took some time, he ended up "cleaning himself" and looks just as nice :)

gloves: he doesn't mind getting on my bare hands but prefers gloves; maybe because he still associates hands with brushing (?)

otherwise, leave your hamster alone when he is sleeping (or does a kind of clicking noise, with his teeth) and always speak to him in a soft voice, ere putting your hand close to him and you should be fine.

good luck!

Yes. All hamsters bite at one point. They get territorial, and if you bother them while they are sleeping they will bite. But it depends how much you spend with them. I recomend not touching him unless you have gloves on. If they smell someone they don't know, they bite. But once they get to know you better, then they will allow you to touch them, and sometimes they even curl up and sleep in your hand. =+)

Also one more thing before I end this post... deffinately do NOT put another hamster in there. They will both fight, and eventually one will die. I had to learn that the hard way, and I'll tell you... it wasn't very nice to clean up.

sometimes. some hamsters are cage aggressive and will bite when inside their cage but are fine outside the cage. u can get them out with gloves or put their hamster ball up to the cage door and they will climb in. u can then safely sit on a couch and let him climb out of the ball & onto your lap. if u r waking him up then it's likely he'll bite no matter what-wouldnt u be mad if someone woke u? make sure your hands are clean-food smells can make him bite. they need time to get used to u, especially if they were never handled or worse-mishandled. in that case it takes patience and time for them to learn to trust u.

It depends how you tame him. Give him a few days alone to adjust to your house, and then slowly work him up to getting used to being held. For example, each day start by giving him treats from your hand, letting him sniff it. Slowly pick him up more often depending on how quickly he learns to trust you. Hamsters usually don't bite unless they were handled roughly, teased with food, disturbed when sleeping, or you have a strange scent on your hands. Hope this helps!

Anything with teeth will bite if it is provoked. It just depends on how tolerant your hamster is of people. Just be gentle.
