Yes many of the so called neocons are wrapping themselves in the flag and holding the cross above their heads and saying follow me into the flames. Of course they never go to war themselves and the laws they create don't pertain to them. Other republicans are trying to create a theocracy in the US to make it like a kind of christian IRAN.

Not all of the Republicans. However the current regime does seem to be doing their very best to eliminate the checks and balances that have served our country so well.
They also seem to be fostering an environment of fear, which they then use to justify taking away our freedom.
The other questionable tactic they use, whenever anyone
questions their methods or agenda, instead of answering or explaining, they attack the questioner. I find this rather sketchy.
Has the current administration demonstrated any real respect for law, due process, the legislative process, the integrity of office?
More often than not....no.
(by they way I claim no political affiliation, what is right ,is right, what is best, is best, what is true, is true).

Ya know?

No. I think by-and-large, they are trying to get their way because
they think it is best for the country.

However, there are a few who are doing it for gain (corruption)
and there are a few who are very unethical about it.

By-and-large, though, conservatives and liberals have their
opinions out of deep concern for society.

There are corrupt liberals too. They deserve the same fate
as corrupt conservatives do (out of office, jail time). If anything
I am nastier about them because ... they make us look bad.

There are a handful of very powerful Republicans right now
that I believe are acting more to keep power than in the best
interests of the country.

There are a lot who think "party loyalty" is a requirement
for doing what is best for the country - you can't do anything
if you aren't in power. This is true for Democrats as well.

But ... the majority of people are really trying to do what they
think is right.

I think that they tend to have more narrow interests than the actual"greater good". Look at the current situation where Bush was diverting funds and not using the designated funds for national security, but instead ear marking the money for government building security. Over 200 million not used in public protection but more spent on his.

no. This is why Dems can never win. We focus on Republicans instead of coming up with our own plan to create jobs, secure our country, and plan for the future.
