15 minutes from the centre of the gleaming city centre of Chicago, are several ghettos that would rival anything that S. Africa can offer. Is this the land of opportunity or not?

We have a getto near where I live, and a few years ago the local business and government decided to clean it up and make the houses new again. It really turned out nice, but now 2 yrs later, it looks like a getto again. I guess some people just don't care how they live and don't take care of what they have....so, my question would be, why don't people take care of what they have? I think it is more of a mental issue, as opposed to a humanitarian issue.

Well mainly because the US is much bigger than S. Africa, and really the ghettos there aren't AS bad as most of the ones in Africa. And it IS the land of opportunity, just whether people TAKE those opportunities or not is the real question.

Maybe because most of the people in the american ghettos are lazy and uneducated. plus they all want a free ride. the Gov has been giving these people a head up over everyone for the past 25 -30 years, and they are still at the bottom of the food chain. if you dont beleive me, check the entrance requirments for most universities, especially Michagen. you wont beleive how easy it is for a black athelete to get in. if your white then your screwed. even the ones who get a free ride drop out of school and F it up. Pro football players with millions and they still act like there in the ghetto? think about it.

It's simple 2 understand once U understand Capitalism.
Americans think they have Democracy, when in fact it's a Capitalist Regime.
Without the lil guy at the bottom getting minimum wage 4 all the sh!t jobs UR average Yank wouldn't do the whole thing would fall apart.
The US needs Ghettos, it keeps it going!

No, it has no longer something to do with the place human beings come from. Its the place immigrants interior the U. S. stay, and what's obtainable to them whilst they get right here. In Canada they are plenty greater selective of their immigration coverage as nicely. interior the U. S. many immigrants finally end up residing in huge cities like ny, la, Chicago, or they circulate to cities... yet circulate into the "incorrect facet of city" by way of fact many dont have close to as plenty money to be triumphant. teenagers then turn to gangs for defense, or a feeling of belonging in a doubtless overwhelming community. the subject has no longer something to do with race, and each little thing to do with ecosystem.

I bet you have never been to Chicago. There are 1000X more wealthy blacks in the US than any country in the world.

Everyone in the US has a chance to do what they want with their life. They do not have to live in ghettos, they choose to.

America IS the land of opportunity. There just happens to be a lot of people that refuse to take advantage of it and expect the rest of us to support them...

Because we are the land of the "free" where "all" men are created "equal" but we can't admit that discrimination still exists.
