It was braided or woven by hand. Vines could be used, strips of bark, spun straw, etc. Some indigenous peoples still make rope by hand, attaching the base to their toes and using it to keep the parts separated for easy weaving

It was made in a ropewalk.
This was a long street or alley where the fibres where fixed to a post and then twisted and pulled as the rope got longer. The length of the rope depended on the length of the ropewalk

A lot of times it was made from tree bark, skin. Hand woven then dried. Also, some animal skin was used.
