The answer is complicated. The Bible was written (or revealed to) a bunch of Middle Eastern goat herders or their descendents. They were not a sophisticated bunch. To them, slavery of one man over another was not the greatest evil. It was the failure of anyone to be a servent of their God. All life back then was nasty brutish and short. Compared to today, the life of a slave wasn't too different from someone free back in those ancient days--both lives were lived hungry, diseased and violent. And so, concepts such as individual liberty did not enter people's minds much until the invention of labor-saving technology via the industrial revolution.
Regarding the Constitution. It was not intended to be an absolute government in its time but a framework for keepign together 13 very different "states" or countries safe from foreign invasion and in peaceful trade with each other.
However, the point that this piece of paper no longer applies today is compelling, since it cannot be binding as a law seeing that no one alive today signed it as a contract between today's government and today's people. Moreover, it is ludicrous to say that it protects our rights given that any male between the ages of 18 and 35 can be drafted into the armed forces for an indefinite period of time to be a slave of the state...

The Constitution was amended to abolish slavery. Slavery in Biblical times wasn't as bad as in the South. Slaves were more like indentured servants and slavery wasn't always hereditary. Not all Christians believe in a literal interpretation, but even those who do recognize that societies have changed and developed for the better.
I don't think this is a Democrat question like the rough looking guy whose answer is below. Democrats believe in the Constitution at least as much as current Republicans and are about equally religious. I think Blue States go to church more often, get divorced less often.

The Constitution was written as a code of law and ethics and was merely a document to state common goals and ideas-it did not specifically mention or condone slavery-at the time it was written, slavery was legal all over the world and a part of every culture. The Bible is merely the Word and did not condone slavery either-as stated before, slavery was just a fact of life.I'm glad those days are gone-there's a newer type of slavery now-I'm enslaved to this computer!

Nothing is good if it was written while slavery existed?
The Bible was not about freedoms on this world, and the Constitution was an agreement by people who lived in the real world at that time.
We are proud of our Constitution as being, in our probably biased opinion, about as good as they come in devising a system of internal governance for those who put it together.
It isn't supposed to be more than that.

The main reason that slavery wasn't banned in the Constitution was that the framers know if they banned it the southern states wouldn't ratify it. Jefferson was against slavery and he wanted to free his. But Virginia had made a law making it all but impossible for anybody to free their slaves.

The bible is not ammended, only re-written in versions to make it more politically correct, while the consitution can be changed legally by ammendments, such as the 13th ammendment which ended slavery.

first of all the bible didnt permitt slavery,it told of it,moses led his people out of slavery, and that was his destiny ordained by God.ant most of the writers of the constitution were slave owners themselves so why wouldnt they permitt slavery?i suggest you read the bible, even if you are not a church going guy its still a good read.and you will see the bible is all about freedom and prosperity, but it tells of the struggles of the early christians, and about the sacrifices God made for his people by giving up his only son to prepare a place for all of us.(even the slaves)a place of peace and forgivness,a place without slaves, and hate, and bigotry, sickness, and death.i think you got your facts mixed up my friend.have a great day.
