If you sleep well elsewhere I would imagine maybe there is something in your environment that you might be allergic to. Mold, dust??? Have you tried changing your pillows - they carry a lot of stuff. That's one idea. The second suggestion was that maybe you should try going to a sleep clinic. It is possible too that you could stop breathing for short periods of time while you're sleeping - this wakes people up a lot. You will have no idea you're doing it - hence why I suggest going to a sleep clinic.
There is also the chance it is related to something emotional - but rule out the physical first. Depression is the most common cause of a screwed up sleep cycle (even if you don't feel depressed - low grade depression can cause this.) See the experts and see your doctor if you need to get referral. Good luck.

i suffer from insomina really bad, im not sure if its a generic think or not as i know when my mother was alive she was pretty much the same, but would just put up with it. i have tried lot's of things like you have said hot milky drinks (hot chocolate) cos i cant stand horlicks ewwwwwwww the smell off it, to warm baths.
you have mentioned that you do take baths but you must make sure the bath is not overly hot, and is luke warm, if you can stomach it you should try adding a few drops off lavender oil in your bath as this really relaxes the body, and sub conciously without you knowing it you could be stressed, tensed or worring about something that you are not really aware off, maybe you are worried about the security off your home, because you said that when your at hotels you sleep like a baby. also try putting a few drops either on a hankey or on your pillow case, of lavender oil as i have siad this will naturaly help your mind and body relax.
if you do not fancy going to your doctor about the problem as you may not want to go on sleeping tablets.
have you tried a product called nytol, i find if i have forgot to get my prescribed sleeping pills to late as i have to give 48hours notice before a repeat prescription can be made. i have never tried the green packet ones i think they are the alternative i.e herbal ones, but have tried the blue packets. i dont know but for some reason the one a night make me feel very agitated so i get the nytol blue packet two a night.which helps me tremedosly, and all it contains is a anti hitamine which acts like a sedative, which should help you slowly drift off to sleep.Make sure though that when you take either the nytol or the precribed sleeping pills that you take them 20 min before going to bed otherwise you could work your body against these and they will not work.
or if all else fails i find that if i play low love songs or songs that are slow and they are played at a very very low volume so you can just about here them this also should help you sleep as you subconcious deep subconcious and concious should all be concentrating on the music, and your mind should drif off to sleep
hope it all turns out well for you and that you will eventualy get that really restful sleep at home in your bed that you need.

If this has gone on for three years and you're still alive - stop worrying about it. You are getting as much sleep as you need - accept it and get on with life. I never sleep for more than thirty minutes at a go but it doesn't worry me. I leave the radio turned on to BBC world service all night and I'm fine. Also ahead of the game at work the next day because I've already heard all the news.

Cat naps are good. You do not really need sleep as long as you rest. Sleep as we know it is quite a modern invention. We do it because it's dark and nowhere is open so what the hell I'll go to sleep. A number of cat naps during the day and night very often will do you more good than harm. Don't worry too much about it.

yes, clear the room everything out and i mean everything off walls dressers stands lamps everything TV stereo and phone and I know you shall find nothing but bliss, I trust!
and you might not believe it eat a great deal before going to bed just for 2 days and eat in the bed!
You will fall asleep once you have read the Spiritual book you claim may it be Quran, Torah, Bible, Hinduism , Buddhism!

Lie on your bed and stay perfectly still for eight hours with your eyes closed. Nobody will know the difference. Seriously this is not a flippant reply as I suffer from this myself. Just pretend you are asleep. You are fortunate to have an active mind, that's all.
Masturbation and cannabis are also both marvellous remedies!!!

Try "Stilnoct". It's great to fall asleep but be careful, go straight to bed when you've taken it otherwise you tend to totally forget what you did between the time you've taken the medication and go to bed. It's pretty good though because the effect only lasts between 3 to 4 hours.

Go 2 A doctor and ask for ivedal 10mg its good stuff but if u got a problem with getting hooked on drugs DONT DO IT cheers

I feel your pain my friend.I'm exactly the same but i tend to wake up 4 or 5 times during an average nights sleep and find it so hard to doze back off.

It sound like you have associated your room with getting no sleep so sociologically when you try to sleep there it plays on your mind making it worse . try your doctor but may bee hypnoses would work (I wont be able to sleep tonight because you made me spell all those hard words) Good Luck.
