I agree (to some extent) that one problem is that Iraq, for example, is like early Vietnam in that it is not impacting enough of America for it to really hit home. And a TV war is something you can turn off so you don't have to confront the ugly images - especially when reality TV is the alternative.
While I think Micheal Moore is a bit of a dolt, I did love when he confronted congressmen and asked if they'd send their kids over to fight. Of course not. And so the war is no big deal to them.
Lebanon is a bit different for me in that it doesn't directly involve the U.S. so some level of disconnect is expected- especially if you see one or both sides as crazy (as many do)- why would I want to be involved on any level. Let them settle it.

How is that any different from Caligula's siege of Jerusalem, or his war in Mauretania.
Do you think he was exposing himself to discomfort. Do you think the Roman Senate packed their bags and went to the front lines.
Soldiers are the dregs of society. The unwanted cast offs. That's why no one cares about body counts. Just pretend they are hero's give them a shiny medal and hope they don't live next door to you.

didn't you see on TV the Lebanese children raising their hands in victory sign while planes hitting their houses over their heads...didn't u see in Israel how people shaking and hiding in shelters and wondering why Hezbollah is so cruel?
