what exactly is the structure which has a glass roof?

Very Carefully ... ;-) ...
Use a ladder or boards spread between the glass' holding
strutts.
or better yet work from a scafold that covers the areas to be painted...
Which ever way you chose be sure to spread the weight and do not place your weight directly onto the glass however thick it seems it may have flaws that you cannot see and through you go messy not good ...

It is nice to tie yourself to a higher fixing point like a chimney. using a prusik knot. Try this site and learn the knot. - very useful

that way you cannot fall down off the roof. Others will tell you how to access a roof

Use some sort of platform so that you arnt standing on the glass at all
