Nope, not in any sense. He didn't invent it. It wasn't invented by anybody. He didn't even discover it first, or he would not have found other people. He just sailed the seas for a Queen, found gold and native peoples, claimed the land for his Queen then went back and told her about it.

Invented? No.
Discovered, possibly, although there are many people who
think it was first discovered by the Europeans by vikings,
not Columbus.
The name "America" derives from the name of another
western hemisphere explorer: Amerigo Vespucci. However,
he came considerably after Columbus.

i didn't know a man could invent part of the earth. thats crazy. are you asking if he founded it? well then no. he landed in the carribean. there is some debate though that Leif Erikson "discovered" the Americas first anyway. Viking ruins were found in newfoundland. they dated from the 900's. Besides no one discovered america. Remember the Indians????

Many people say that America was discovered by Christopher Columbus. I think it was more the native Americans discovering Columbus flailing around lost, myself.
Edited to add: I've read the book "1421" in regards to if the Chinese were here first. Definately a possibility. It is also possible the Vikings were here first - or any native Russians that took their boat across the Bering Straight. It's pointless to argue about it.

America was invented by God.
Columbus discovered America after two other people did.

History places great significance on Columbus discovery of America in 1492, when in fact he did not reach the mainland until his third voyage in 1498. It is also a common misconception that he is the earliest European explorer to reach the Americas, and whilst some believe it was actually Leif Erikson, Tim Severin has extablished that 6th century Irish monks, in particular St Brendan the navigator, were capable of, and from monastic records, may in fact have undertaken this voyage long before.

"Invented"? No. Indians were living here long before Spanish and English people came along and stole it.
