Some women have periods that fall on the same day every month. I, however, have never been really regular. I started my period when I was 12 and had very light cramps and backache the first day. The next period I had was excruciating cramps and have gotten worse since then. I'm 28 now and I take huge doses of ibuprofen once a month, every month. Only the recommended dose of course but I max it out every day to keep my cramps at bay. But then again some women never have bad cramps. I think they run in the family also. My sister and mom all had the kind of cramps that make you want to get into the fetal position. Ask your mom or other women in your family what kind of cramps they have/had and how regular/irregular they are.

P.S. The chick above me must the one of THOSE women that don't have bad cramps. Periods are horrible. I'm not trying to scare you but they are. They're uncomfortable and miserable. And be careful taking Midol or Pamprin if you never have. I had a bad reaction one time. They're muscle relaxers and if you're very susceptible you can become too relaxed and have a hard time functioning until they wear off. Periods and cramps are something you just have to deal with. Find out what works for you and you can at least make them somewhat bearable. Good luck.

I was irregular and had very bad cramps and heavy periods until I went on birth control to get regular. I was on it for a few years then I went off and I've been regular ever since. The thing that sucks about birth control tho is that you may gain weight, and your period will be 7 days long while on it. However, my period now (years later) has drastically cut off. I'm down to 3-4 days.
Good luck. I suggest talkign to your doctor.

PMS - Realize it's your period. When you understand why you feel the way you do it's easier to handle it. If you're young, try Mydol and a heating pad. If you're older, try AC&C (or 222's)....it might be called something different where you're from. It's a mix of Aspirin, Codeine (small amount), and Caffeine. It works for me - you can get it over the counter. If you go to your doctor and tell him your cramps are unbearable he may prescribe Naproxin, which is a muscle relaxent (sometimes prescribed for back problems too). It works AWESOME.
Other than medication try hot showers with the water on your lower back or a hottub.

Good luck!

When you first start your period you can expect it to be very irregular for a year or so, that is very normal as your body works to start producing all the proper hormones you need and then they will become more regular. Some women have cramps every cycle, and some don't.. I know with myself, some months are worse than others and I find things like caffiene make mine worse. As far as PMS, eat some chocolate, seriously! and they do make over the counter PMS medications (like Midol) that help with the cramps, the bloating and such.

It varies from girl to girl, some settle quickly but others can take 2-3 years to settle. And yes, every single period I had from starting at 12 up til about 19 I had cramps tho the worst time was from 12-15. Consider the contraceptive pill to help ease them, you don't need to use it for stopping pregnancy

Being irregular is normal after starting your periods, cramps are also a part of menses and most women have them monthly, Midol is good to relieve PMS.

My periods never became regular until about 5 years after starting them.
PMS - try agnus castus. It helps with cramps and mood swings better than evening primrose or starflower oil, in my experience. It also helps make your periods regular. Google it. I get mine from www.healthspan.co.uk

Like the first answerer said take midol. Stop listening to other people saying that this is going to happen and that is going to happen. Learn to know your body. Periods are an inconvenience sometimes but not that bad.

PMS is just an excuse that was produced by the University of Bi**h. Just an excuse that is all. Cramps are your punishment for being a woman and tempting Adam in the Garden of Eden, if you believe all that bible crap.
