Obviously, Columbus did not know where he was going, otherwise it would be called something like Columbia. But instead, we call it America, after Amerigo Vaspucci an Italian Astronomer and Explorer. He is the first person to indicate that America is not a part of Asia.

If indeed, a Chinese Muslim discovered America, then where is his/her namesake?

Vikings? Maybe, but their experience was not persistent.

But invented America? I think not. Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and George Washington were "co-inventors" of the United States.

Your theory may be based on the supposition that at one time there was a land bridge that connected Alaska and Asia ... which gives rise to the theory as to why there are so many physical similarities (eyes, hair, cheekbones, etc.) between Asians and Native Americans and that ultimately we were all one people. America wasn't "invented" by anybody ... discovered, yes, invented, no. There are arguments that it was discovered by the Norse well before Columbus bumped into it in 1492 ... but who knows for sure. Your issue about Muslim Chinese I doubt - religion wasn't really the impetus behind the discovery of most territories - trade was and finding new routes and sources for buying and selling.

I think Erik the Red discovered America first; I'm pretty sure that it was the Vikings and not Columbus. However, here is part of an article about the Chinese who are said to have beat Columbus.

The map, which shows North and South America, apparently states that it is a 1763 copy of another map made in 1418.

If true, it could imply Chinese mariners discovered and mapped America decades before Columbus' 1492 arrival.

Invented?
If you mean 'discovered', then Eric the Red a viking supposedly was over here around 1300.
Around the same time, but somewhat later than Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci came to America. A German cartographer, I remember reading he was from Nuremberg (Nürnberg), with incorrect information he received, thought that Amerigo was first and titled maps he made 'Amerika' for that reason.
The Celts were here early too, recently some Celtic coins were found at a beach dig on the East Coast, but no exact date was established for that the latest I heard.

I saw documentary on this a year or so ago, and there is very good evidence that Chinese merchant- explorers did land in North America quite awhile before Columbus, or ever the vikings. They even settled here for awhile and part of the evidence is stone buildings of a particular type that they left behind. Very old Chinese maps also confirm this.

The Norse discovered the continent of America over 1000 years before Columbus.

But, despite Columbus' arrival, America didn't get its' name from him.http://www.davidstuff.com/usa/America.htm

I can only provide references for my answers. I can't prove them if you choose not to believe the references are reliable.

Out of curiosity, what is your reference for American being discovered by a Muslim Chinese? I'd like to see that.

You probably mean "discovered". I dont know about the chinese but I do know that the only thing that Columbus discovered was that he was lost. (He was looking for a shorter route to India) lol

China did not discover America.

But, now they are in the process of buying us.
Very soon, they will own us and we will be a Territory of China.

Then, no one will ever recognize the Chinese language, when we get through with it.

If you mean the name "America", it came from Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian cartograhpher, that means map maker.
