depends on the teacher...
some like quiet kids that are no hassle, others like the eager kids sitting up front asking questions, others like a kid that was in the same sport or activity they were in back in the day...

I am a teacher. No matter what teachers say, they do secretly choose favorites.
Teachers' favorite students are the ones who show interest in the material, and act like they want to learn. Teachers don't want complements or gifts. They want you to listen to them, follow instructions and try hard. But most important, you have to show them that you love learning.
So, if you want to be the favorite, ask lots of questions in class. Tell your teacher when you've noticed something new or interesting. Come into class and tell the teacher about something you read or saw on TV which had to do with what you are learning in class. That will show him or her that you're paying attention, that you care.
That's all it takes.

Listen to the teacher, show that you care about the class, do your homework, don't misbehave.
Volunteer to help, after class. Don't show off in front of others, because the teacher will not want to seem obvious if she or he has any smarts.
Sit up straight in your desk. Come to class well groomed, not missing belts, not having your pants hanging down halfway off you ash. Have you laces tied, dont' wear hats in class, don't wear your hood on.
In other words, always do the right thing.

Pheonix, you don't sound like a teacher... I have even read some of your previous questions. You don't sound professional at all.
Now, to answer your question. It is difficult to be a teacher's favorite. In my case, I was the "silent genius" when I was in school. I find that I connect with these kids best. Oddly, these "silent genius" types seem to be my Goth kids now. They are interested in graduating, but they don't show any particular interest in "brown nosing". I find "brown nosers" repulsive... they irritate me. Although I try my best to be kind to all my kids, the "C students" who try hard and care enough to smile at me are the ones I get along with the best.
Now, in short. Treat your teacher how you want to be treated. If you treat your teacher like a warden... you will become a prisoner. If you treat your teacher like a torturer... you will be tortured. If you treat your teacher like a friend... you will eventually be betrayed. Do you get it? You create the situation with the teacher that you make.

by doing what you are suppose to do in school: study, pay attention to the teacher, do your homework and participate in classroom discussions, attend classes everyday, and tutoring students who takes a little longer understanding the class work

It depends on the teacher. Usually, you would do your work in class, be on your best behavior and do your homework on time.

I'm a middle school teacher. I like students who are honest, aren't afraid to laugh at themselves (or me), and work hard. I don't care if they are "A" students or "F "students, I love kids who aren't afraid to show a little personality and are RESPECTFUL.
