Hawaii, which was admitted along with Alaska in 1959. It's similar to the minor tiff over which state was admitted first on the same day in 1889, North Dakota or South Dakota. Today, North Dakota's considered the 38th and South Dakota the 39th because then-President Benjamin Harrison left nothing that confirmed which was first. States admitted on the same day, as far as we've experienced, are acknowledged alphabetically. That's why you don't hear a flip-flop over which state's first, Alaska or Hawaii.

Have a great day!

Hawaii... however, do you really consider a conquered nation a freely admitted state? We basically said give us your islands or we will commit genocide... sounds kind of like what we did to the Indians.

If we consider only the states what were freely admitted, Alaska wins.
