Because you may be writing a paper on your procedure/experiment and all those records you kept will be needed to produce it. The better your records, the better your report.

When you're performing laboratory experiments, a hard copy can be used for many different things. These include instructions that you can go back to if something goes wrong, as well as providing instructions for someone else to replicate the experiment under the same conditions you used.

becaue one day those procedures may come in very handy indeed. You can never tell if anything will happen to people s records.
