I am about 12 weeks pregnant, and I am getting these stupid cold sores on my lip. I have been using Abreva, is this okay when I am pregnant? Does anyone know a way to make them go away fast?

Campho Phenique is what I have been using it is like 3x cheaper then Abreva and works great. I will tell you though it burns like the dickens when you first put it on and taste gross if you actully get it in your mouth!!! But it does work, cold sores suck I had never had one until I got pregnant! Good Luck!

You could try Lip Medix by Blistex or Carmex. It may take a week to clear up but those products do work. If it's a canker sore put salt directly on it about 2 times a day. It hurts but the sore will be gone in three days.

You might even consider asking your OBGYN if he/she can prescribe you some Zovirax ointment. That is some handy stuff and it's safe during pregnancy because it's only applied topically.

A "real" cold sore is the herpes simplex virus. It technically considered an STD because recent studies show you can transfer an outbreak from the mouth to the vagina or penis. Tell your doctor you had an outbreak. More then likely you and your baby will be fine but maintain above normal hygiene when you have an outbreak. Wash your hands and if your not sure, wash them again. The person who commented further down from me who said they were different is wrong. It is possible to spread a cold sore to the gential area. Previously they were called Herpes Simplex 1 and 2 but this is no longer the case.

Blistex is the best thing I've ever found. Put some on several times a day and it cures the cold sore in 3 or 4 days.

I asked this same question the other night and someone told me to use Blistex because I have never had a cold sore til now and I have used the Blistex for 3 days and it is about healed up. So I would use the Blistex it works fast.
