Dear m'lady,
it seems you're in a catch 22. If you do ask him then you might look bad, if you don't you might get him to ask you eventually, if you don't #2 you might lose him forever. Approach him with a bit caution and start hanging out more. Get a feel of how he is NOWadays. People do change over time so going out will lead to dating and more.

I had a crush on this wonderful man, I took the first move, now he's my husband of more that 5 years!
See yourself and do what makes you comfortable, dont be something your not. if it feels right its most likely right.

nope. you should give him at least 1 or 2 days to make the move and ask you out. if he doesn't then you should.

i waited until he asked me out.
but you can ask something like, "hey, so do you want to go the movies with me friday night?"
don't ask something like "you like me, i like you. why don't we go out?" pick a place and date.
so then if he has something friday night [for example], but he still really wants to go out with you, he can say "oh but i have to go to a football game, but i'm free on saturday night".
