I am 19 years old and this is my first pregnancy. My bf is really worried about me going back home but I will be leaving tonight for a month. I just turned 16 weeks yesterday and I am worried as well. I will be flying to Philippines for 13-15 hrs. straight. Is it still okay for me to fly?

You should be perfectly fine to fly. Although it's always a good idea to discuss any planned travel with your doctor.

If you are having issues with your pregnancy - then you'll definetly want clearance to travel. But typically (and depending on the doctor you ask) from 34 to 36 weeks on is when your doctor will advise no more flying.

Also, because you are traveling out of the country - please be sure you are covered medically or purchase travel medical insurance in case something happens. You are not only taking your own health into consideration, but a babies as well.

And finally - no matter what your doctor says - don't dismiss the bf's worries as nothing.. he just cares about you and the baby..

Hope this helps!

There are some restrictions as to just who should and should not travel the skies when they are pregnant. Generally, women who are having a healthy, normal pregnancy are free to come and go as they please. However, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends women don’t fly after their 36th week of pregnancy.

Airlines have their own flight restrictions for pregnant women, which can vary according to whether you are flying domestically or internationally and which airline you will be flying. Some airlines won’t allow you to travel for 30 days before your due date, while others won’t let you on board if your due date is less than seven days away. Be sure to ask the ticket agent when you book your ticket just what their restrictions are since they probably won’t mention it otherwise. And don’t forget to consider how close your due date will be when you come back.

Women who are having any sort of complications associated with their pregnancy or who are considered to be ‘high risk’ should not travel. This includes women with poorly controlled diabetes, sickle cell disease, placental abnormalities, hypertension or those at risk for premature labor.

Whether you are in your first trimester or third trimester, it is always a good idea to discuss your travel plans with your health care provider before you leave. It may also be a good idea to obtain a doctor’s note saying that it is okay for you to travel, especially if you are in your third trimester. Not every airline requires a doctor’s note to let you on the plane, but sometimes it’s easier to take the extra precaution in order to avoid any possible hassles when you board.

Flying in Early Stages of Pregnancy
Flying in early pregnancy is safe. However, during the first trimester, the main concern over flying is making your pregnancy symptoms, like morning sickness, worse. (You may want to make sure you have a extra few sick bags nearby, just in case.) And a mildly stuffed-up nose on the ground could become much worse once you’re in the air.

you should be just fine! I flew a lot in my first pregnancy up until 32 weeks and that's when my doctor said I shouldn't anymore. call your doctor and see what they say. They know your health history. They may recomend you to go and pick up a copy of your medical records as for you are going to another country.( in case of an emergancy.) Just remember if you do fly and it's this long get up and walk around and strech your legs when ever possible. And drink plenty of water. Flying can dehydrate pregnant women faster. And go to the bathroom frequent. You don't need to get a bladder infection while in another country! Congrats on your pregnancy and good luck with the flight.

Unless the doctor told you to stay in bed for rest, I believe it's ok to fly. That's only if you are having a normal pregnancy. But remember, don't get worried everything will be alright.

It's perfectly safe to fly, just make sure you get up and move about when you can to reduce the chance of some mild edema (swelling) and to keep your blood circulating.

Have a wonderful trip!

Generally it's safe because usually, you have to be more cautious druing the first three months as you are more vulnerable during that stage, but afterwards it's considered as ok if you are in good health etc. Maybe you should consult first your doctor though.

Yes, I know plenty of women who have to take business trips and they are pregnant. I think it becomes unsafe late in the pregnancy.
