I found a graphic novel in a used bookstore. It is about six years old. The author/illustrator is now pretty well known and has come out with several additional books. The book, on the inside first page, is his autograph and the date with the inscription, "First sold! Thanks!" I presume this means that this book was the first one anyone bought.

Is this valuable? How can I find out? Should I sell it on ebay? Or should I bring it to a comic store? What do you think?

In order to establish the authenticity of it, you might want to contact the author and the person he signed it for. It does seem a bit odd that someone would give up the first signed issue....

Who knows...? Perhaps it was stolen and resold and you might get a reward for returning it. Or, at least, if you can indeed verify that it was the first one sold and you have clear title to it, it will be that much more valuable.

You may not be aware, but falsification of collectibles is one of the most profitable scams going. With the wide variety of sports memorabilia, comics, toys, lunchboxes, books, coins, stamps, etc., there is also a wide variety of fakes. For your own sake as well as the sake of whomever might wish to buy it from you, try to track it down and verify this find before you try to sell. Good luck!

If its only been about six years, . . . then maybe you might get a few bucks for it. Since artists often sign a copy at conventions, at "Signings" of guest artists. It could of be a First Sold at one of those conventions.

Wait a few more years, maybe you'll get lucky and that artist will meet with an untimely demise. Then it may be a good time to see just what it is worth, . . then.
