Weaknees still sell standalone TiVos with lifetime subscription. Of course they do have the subscription fee factored into their sale price. Since TiVo don't offer lifetime anymore, the lifetime TiVos offered at Weaknees are a good value if you plan on keeping it for a while.

The other less reliable option is buy it on eBay.

My mother in law bought hers directly from Tivo. She paid the full price for the box then the service was free for the life of the box.

You can buy it anywhere you buy a TIVO, problem is that if you don't pay the monthly fees you don't get the TIVO service, you can basically record, but nothing else.
