Never. Until a baby is ready to eat solids (at least 6 months old), they should not have any!! Giving them before she/he can digest them is a risk for allergies and asthma, and possibly other diseases/conditions later in life.

NEVER. You do not put cereal in a bottle love, most baby's can start to be feed with cereal from around four months plus, but you will have to feed it from a spoon NOT IN THE BOTTLE. You use a bottle for liquids only unless your GP advises that you liquidize the cereal into a proper liquid form and put it into a bottle you feed from a spoon. xxx Good luck. xx Oh and spoon feeding really is a joyful (but frustrating at times ) experience for both you and your baby so enjoy it whilst it lasts.x

I never put cereal in the bottle. My son was on milk only until 4 months, then I gave him cereal in a bowl.

I'm just curious as to how you came about the idea of putting cereal in a bottle.... Who does that? It's one of the most ridiculous things I've heard of.

You do not feed babies cereal from a bottle. You feed them cereal from a bowl once they're ready.

Okay, I apologise, I know I'm kinda abusing you here... Don't mean to, I don't know, maybe it's a common practise and I've never heard of it.

Unless your baby has reflux, you should NEVER put cereal in a bottle. For babies with reflux, discuss it with your doctor first.

Babies should not start solids until 4-6 mos of age, per the AAP. (Preferably closer to 6 mos.) Then, they should eat solids off of a spoon since the point is to get them used to that, not continuing to drink everything. Cereal in the bottle can also potentially be a choking hazard. The point of starting solids is mostly for fun and practice with eating from a spoon, not really so much for nutrition. Breastmilk or formula should continue to be their main source of nutrition for the enire first year.

I don't agree with the person that said giving cereal in a Bottle is for teaching them, Crazy, food is for nourishment, I don't think a Baby should be given cereal in a Bottle it goes down to fast, wait until they are old enough to eat from a spoon,

Never. Unless your doctor has instructed you to do so to help with reflux symptoms in your baby, putting cereal is a big no-no. The point of giving baby cereal is to teach him to use his mouth, tongue and gums to eat food. Putting it in the bottle doesn't teach him anything but to overeat and fill up to quickly. So don't do it!

Edited for the critical know-it-alls on Yahoo Answers: Of course food is for nourishment, I have two healthy children and I'm not an idiot! What I meant was that feeding baby cereal should be off a spoon to help him learn to eat properly. Whether you know it or not, a baby's natural eating response is to suck, so baby does need to "learn" to use his mouth, gums and tongue to eat solid food. In case you forgot since it was so long ago, eating cereal and other first foods does take practice for an infant. It doesn't come naturally for them. Giving it in a bottle misses half the point and contributes to other problems. Is that better? Jeez...

the doctors will tell you never, but the hell with them. Are they going to be there when your baby is screaming at 2am??? I think not.

I started at around 2 months with my second child. Truthfully, it did nothing for him. He still got up twice during the night.

People will scare you by saying if you do that too soon they will get allergies or disease....bologna!! That is ridiculous. It happens to 1 baby in a million. Don't listen to these radical posts with their absolutes. Never do this or never do that....that is bad advice...every baby is unique!!

It does work for some babies though. Make sure you widen the hole in the nipple when you do that otherwise the cereal won't get through and the baby won't get anything!! (I made that mistake)

You really shouldn't put the cereal in the bottle unless there is a problem with the infant keeping down the formula and then you can add a very small amount to thicken the formula and help baby keep it down.......If the baby seems hungry even after you feed them the formula talk to your doctor about introducing cereal but that shouldn't be until after 2 months.............GOOD LUCK

Never put cereal in the bottle. The bottle should be associated with milk or formula only. Feed them on a spoon. If they won't take the spoon, keep feeding them formula or breast milk. Both my sons didn't eat solid food until 8 months, it's the way nature intended it.
