What book discusses the step by step set-up of a marine aquarium? I want to know about sumps, the materials needed for a working sump, a good design for a sump and how to plumb one.
I also want to read about fish classifications, fish compatibility, habitat requirements, dietary requirements, sickness and cure.

The book is: The Complete Aquarium, by Peter W. Scott. It is an excellent step by step book. It covers all types of aqurium set ups. I realize you are focusing in on marine tanks and the book does cover 2 great types of marine set ups. The book is a little dated, but nothing that will prevent you from learning the fundementals. You will learn a tremendous amount from it and the illustrations are perfect actual photos. Get it . Search on line for it.

Try multiple books instead of a single source.
Another book worthy of checking out is "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert M. Fenner

Gives a lot of info about setting up a tank, maintaining a tank, all kinds of stuff! lots of info about the fish species as well!
