True...not even God judges a person before he is dead. So who are we to do it. But then you said it yourself...no one is perfect and that includes us....

hq3 and BigPappa have got it right.
It's all about the idea of "practicing what you preach". This goes for everybody, including those who are religious. If you say something, over and over and over again, and then suddenly do something that goes against what you've been saying....that's hypocrisy. Saying all religious people do this is a gross generalization, because those who are religious and those who are not both do this. Religious fanatics who were hypocrits to begin with, on the other hand, get blamed a lot because when they believe they are "following the will of God", etc etc, they fail to realize that they're going against exactly what they're preaching.
Oh, and Mel Gibson. Ha. The issue there is not that he "whoops, got into trouble" just like "any other person". First of all, he broke the law. He was driving while intoxicated. Nobody, not even celebrities, should get out of that. Secondly, he made a slew of horrible remarks, many of which wre anti-semetic in nature. Again, nobody should get away with that. The reason why there's all this hype around the issue is because he'd supposedly said, in the past, that he had no problems with Jews...yet get some alcohol in him, apparently, and off he is spouting on about how they're the cause of so many problems. As the saying goes - "a drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts".
Saying all religious people are hypocrits is a generalization. To say that Mel Gibson is a hypocrit...well, that's a heck of a lot more plausible. There's a difference between "messing up" and "driving drunk and insulting the entire Jewish commmunity". Yes, he's a celebrity, and that's probably all the more reason why he should have been careful. Celebrities KNOW they've got the media all over them...and they also kow that they set an example to thousands of people out there. It's a burden and a responsibility. And if they don't handle it properly, then that's their problem.

People and diamonds share a commonality, they both have flaws. Hypocrites are knowingly deceivers, like politicians who say they need a raise and yet poor people at minimal wage don't. I haven't scene Mel Gibson do a television revival or a statement to the cause of any affiliation, just push his picture as a product. I think people get confused between Hypocrisy and bigotry. Hypocrisy takes brains, bigotry just natural stupidity.

I agree but a lot of religious folks DO go around with a holier-than-thou attitude....criticizing others and pointing out others' faults.
I guess we have no choice than when being accused of being a sinner (which we are) than to point out their own glaring sin...their hypocrisy.
I mean, it's sorta like a guy who is in the middle of stabbing 20 people to death, taking time out from his butchering to tell me I'm a sinner because I smoke. Give me a break!

Well, if you go around claiming to be a Christian, and then drop bombs on innocent children, what the hell kind of Christian are you? Or you are a good a faithful Islamic type person, and you shoot rockets in the hopes of killing innocent people, what kind of islamic are you? And if you are Jewish and you send your airplanes over another land and bomb it back into the Middle Ages, then what seperates you from a common murderer?

Because those religious people act like they're better than the rest of us "stupid humans", it makes us feel better about life when they mess up. Beside they ARE hypocrites because they don't practice what they preach.

Religious people like to remind the rest of people that they are holier then non religious people.
And then they mess up just as the rest of people. And yet they won't stop talking about how much better they are then everybody else.
This is THE definition of hypocrisy.
