Yes, they are becoming more socialist because we are no longer fighting them. Reagan gave weapons to fight the commies, but we don't do much any more. Colombia is one country that we do support heavily and is pro-west.

it's kind of a reaction to US slewing ever further to the right. The economic hegemony of the last few decades has really got peoples' goats, and now they've decided on some changes. But Chavez probably talks more than he does. And the leftest of them all, Lula in Brazil, makes no attempt to implement anything vaguely leftist, and just accepts that Blairism is the menu du jour.

Yes, but if you take a look at polls, it has been that way for a long time. The difference is that now some Americans reciprocate. That is because while a lot of Latin Americans immigrate to the US, legally and illegally, a very visible portion of them bring their anti-American feelings with them.
When it is in your own yard, it is hard to ignore.
