Why did New Orleans get more coverage?

Most people say New Orleans was harder hit, but when people see the Mississippi Gulf Coast, they don't realize that there were homes there once.

Many people driving along Second Street in Pass Christian would not realize that my school once stood there, because a lot of the debris has been cleaned out.

That's my school, before the debris trucks came in.

And that's where I attend now.

New Orleans was flooded, but Mississippi got the storm surge, which destroyed anything 5 blocks from the beach. This storm surge also caused the rivers to rise, flooding all homes along them. Creeks and ditched overflowed, causing homes by them to have water in them, too.

New Orleans may look like a ghost town (no pun intended), but the Mississippi coast looks like there was nothing there before August 29, 2005.

Now... go!

Oh how right you are. The entire stretch of hwy 90 in Mississippi...and north of that of course was WIPED out. We didn't come back to standing water in our homes...we came back to NOTHING...well we were smart enough to leave and then come back! :) It was weird because in long beach it stopped at magnolia street and the houses south of it were destroyed and the ones north were still there...really weird! Yeah 2nd street in pass christian is crazy...once again tough the Pass was DESTROYED! the entire city is now in portables right across from the tennis courts!! but they do have pirates cove...YEY!! I was really sad to see st. pauls go...my mom said they stayed in the gym during camille, but katrina wiped it out! Crazy!!

New Orleans got the coverage because we wanted it to be a race thing...boo hoo. Kanye West and Jesse Jackson opened their big fat worthless mouths and said STUPID STUPID things...yet gave NOTHING in monetary help nor their time... New Orleans can't stop fighting still today, while Mississippi is WAY ahead in the world of "rebuilding." I think Haley Barbor, Gene Taylor, and Trent Lott did a great job in Mississippi!!

Katrina showed how reckless and incompetent Government is. The Levees should have been strengthened years ago. This should never have happened, and when it did the response was pathetic. It was a national disgrace. Nothing to be proud of at all. How Bush could justify what went on is something only he would know. He didn't fool anybody.

Probably because the people of Mississippi acted civilized. They left when they were told, didn't loot, shoot at the police, and didn't make a public nuisance for themselves with the media.

its a travesty for all people when something like this happens and i dont think anyone takes great credit out of more coverage issues,
people die in these horrible events and its very hard to cope with loss in unexpected circumstances,,thats why we fear terrorists because it is unexpected and is hard to deal with..lol
peace to all , and you keep smiling

sorry for your loss. those who blame the government are just looking for someone to blame..period. it was no ones fault that this tragedy happened, but alot of times people refuse to leave their homes, thinking that they can ride it out. rescuers risk their lives saving ppl like this. yes, the levee should have been repaired but there was enough warning for people to get out. and there was help for those who couldn't, no transportation or whatever. the governor is who you should blame if you must place blame somewhere.

I'm with jdmc on this one. The media is going to cover the most sensational story because it makes for better ratings.

I think New Olreans got more coverage b/c it is (was?) a major city and a very well-known city.
