I always did well in school without studing. I cram before exams. Now I'm scared because in a program you have to be consistent with study skills and you must retain (not forget) the material.

I don't wanna start on the wrong foot. Also I don't wanna start really working hard then turn into the slacker I always am after a few weeks.

Any Advice?

usually the study skills you used to get you to where you are aren't going to make any more drastic changes from here on out. because you are consitently good at what you've done to make sure you've got your grades.
all that i can suggest is after going over material in class refresh yourself with old and new material every night before going to sleep. and then skim over important points when you wake up in the morning. this constant reminder of information helpps you retain it longer

I've been at exactly the same situation... Unfortunately there was no Yahoo!answers then, so I did start on the wrong foot... Skipping classes, never studying and actually thinking I would be able to take it all in two days before the exam... Needless to say I didn't do well as a freshman! There is no reason to be afraid however, with a little bit of time managment and self control you will succeed without really feeling exhausted... Just study a bit every day, do your assingments, don't be afraid to ask questions and maybe form a study group.... Just don't let yourself fall back to the same boredom and procrastination. Always remember your goal: grad school, a good jod or whatever... Seriously, the scary thing is realising you have a lousy GPA cause you've spend a year having ''fun'' on things that don't matter... I am sure you'll do great!

Well college is twice as hard as high school. The key to do good in college is good note taking. So whenever you have time at the night, just review the material. And before an exam, know the material by hard. You'll do fine. Also it depends on the program, if your going for pre-med or pharmacy the classes would be more challenging than if your in a business program. So Good Luck and dont slack.

YOU BIG DUMMY. If you are smart enought to get into a college program, why can't you get it together????

It's darn simple. Set up a study plan TODAY. Block off 1-2 hours of intense study at the library. Study something related to your program major. You should be somewhat familiar with the pieces of your program. Visualize this stuff and STUDY SMART.

Good Luck

This is all part of the learning experience. Now comes the hard part; you actually have to put in some effort. You'll find out soon enough if you're up to it. It would be a shame to blow this opportunity because you won't learn new study skills. All it takes is discipline.

Sure! Set aside time every day for studying and STICK TO IT! It's up to you to maintain your schedule.

Visualize categorizing your mind into files and label the files whatever your class subjects are. After you study one subject, think about what you've just read then visualize yourself putting that knwledge into the appropriate file. Then move on to the next subject doing the same visualization with its own file.

The point of this exercise is that it gets one studied subject "put away" so you have room in your conscious mind for the next subject you'll study and you SHOULD be able to access that file of information when you need it.

Come test time just visualize accessing that particular file in your mind and all of the information you read should be available to you. This worked for me.

Join a study group. Talk with peer counselors (if available at your college). Develop a feasible study plan. Talk to people who are taking the same course (2nd year students) for advice. You can find out more from the Admin/HR of the college.

You know I was scard of collage at first too but I found it to be more fun then regular school and I actually did better in collage. I think you will find out the same as long as you don't put yourself in too many classes. But my advice is do your homework. If your do your homework you will be fine
