They made me gain weight but I didn't get pregnant so they worked. As for calcium though, I don't think any birth control is really safe to be for an extended period of time, say ten years with no breaks. Where it's unnatural hormones being introduced to your body the side effects can take years to be realized. Of course life without birth control wouldn't be good either. :) It took me 21 months after I went off it just to get my period back and then conceive a child. No long term effects that I know of for me yet.

Personally I loved it. I didn't have my period for like 2 years...it was great. And I believe my sex life was better on it than on the pill, but not sure why? I never gained weight, actually the pill has made me gain weight more than the shot did. I had to switch over because it wasn't helping my skin (made me break out).

I was on it for about 8 years and loved it. I gained a little weight while I was on it but that was really it. I quit taking it in May of 2005 because I was just tired of being on anything and me and my husband decided to use condoms. I didn't have a period while I was on it and it didn't start again for 8 months after being off of it. I have since decided to try to have a baby. It hasn't happed yet but we are still trying.

Hate it.

I had one shot, never bothered with the second. I gained weight, turned completely psycho, and bled for 6 months, well after it was supposed to be out of my system. I had to go on The Pill to straighten my cycles out.

They had me on it for harmones, I was already fixed, then it made me a double fixed bi*tch. PMS was like a puppy compared to what that shot did to me. Try having an attitude of the Mother of All Mothers with Rabies. Yep it was ugly.

What calcium concern? Do you mean osteoporosis? Far more danger of blood clots, strokes and heart attacks. In fact, it should prevent osteoporosis.

I liked it because there is NO possible way to get pregnant, and you dont have your period!! I think that its ok for a short amount of time. It did make me extra moody and I only gained like 10 lbs. Its not that bad.
