Televisions shows, cartoons, and movies all seem to slowly become devoid of anything educational or truly artful. It seems that tv and movies today are more concerned about pushing people into a impetuous stupor with his mind-numbing entertainment. Is it possible that this is being done purposely?

Its a give and take. People are becoming midless because of TV, but the mindless TV shows are receiving better ratings inspiring execs to make even more mindless shows.

Its a vicious cycle that will probably never stop.

You bring up an interesting point. Add to that the parents are portrayed as imbeciles and the children thrive on disrespect.
Then there's the whole disintegration of the educational system, continually revising downward their expectations to integrate everyone together. We don't want to make anyone feel bad about themselves - so grades are essentially non existent.
Add the mind numbing content of TV shows ----- not a pretty picture, is it?

As a general rule, the entertainment industry considers us mind numb. The only solution I have been able to come up with is to be discriminating in my choice of what I watch. In the meantime, there are an awful lot of excellent books to read to fill my time.

I do not think so. I think it is more a lack of originality in the entertainment industry. Need evidence of this, just look at all the movie remakes of old tv shows. Unfortunately, imagination is dying. Because of tv, the internet, video games, etc. children are just not being forced to use their imaginations anymore. I only see this trend worsening with time.

Very good! You have figured out what I have known for years. That is why I stay away from most shows on TV. I do not go to to movies. If I watch anything, I watch documentaries or movies that make sense.
