I don't know how but, I no longer have the volume icon on my desktop, when I watch dvd's I don't get any sounds. how can I add the sound back to my desktop?

Start, Control Panel, Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices, Adjust the System Volume, and make sure Place Volume Icon in the Task Bar is checked. Apply changes and that should work now.

If you're talking about the volume icon in the notifications area (also called the system tray) you can add it back by doing the following:

Click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices

Under Device volume make sure the Place volume icon in the taskbar is checked, then click Apply and OK.

Control Panel => Sounds and Audio devices => Under the Volume Tab select the (place Icon on task bar) check box.

Go to your Control panel select Multimedia and make sure that your soundcard is still listed and on the bottom tick display Speaker Box.

goto the control pannel then sounds sppech and audio,adjust sytem volume tick place in task bar. make sure you you havent selected mute either.
