The trees offer shelter, food, raw material for home construction and escape routes for the hunted.
The needles on the ground take a long time to break down thus retaining moisture in the gound making it good soil for worms, nematodes etc.
Birds find seeds and shelter for nests in the trees.

coniferous means that the trees are green all year round. this would include pines, furs, etc. lots of animals need this stability in their ecosystem to survive.
