this was the topic on NPR's Talk of the Nation on Friday. One figure I heard was that 95% of all psychic claims were bunk according to research. you could check out the website (NPR.org and go to the TOTN link) if you're interested

Well if you understand the basis behind science, nothing can be truely explained 100%. Science is based on the scientific method, which phenomina is explained through reproducable results in a controlled and consistent environment. Having said that, science essentialy is assumptions based on consistent observations that support it. This doesn't imply 100% that it is accurate or not, but probability of it occurring is consitent enought that we make that assumption that it will occurr.
Likewise I cannot prove that an electron has a specific mass or electricity is caused by the movement of electrons. However, with controlled experiments I can make consistent observations that we can assume its existence. Psychics are the same way, it will depend on our ability to observe the charateristics of psychics and compare them in controlled situations to many possible variances.
I think the abililty to identify characteristics through observations may be isolated, but pure proof of anything truely resides in faith. One thing I saw that was interesting on TV earlier last year, I believe it was on the SciFi channel involving the TAPs paranormal research group. They were doing some observation work around this individual who claimed to be a psychic was with them at the time. They were trying to understand the phenomina around psychics as well and video taped a controlled interrogation process with several cameras including thermal imaging. What is wierd is that when some of the controlled questions were answered wrong on purpose, the thermal imaging that focused on the psychic and the client went bizerk. There was like an halo that extended form the psychic and was very radiant and changed to multiple extremes within seconds. I don't know what to make of it if it was mechanical failure or some radical change in heat in seconds, but its food for thought.

Essentially EVERY test on so-called psychics (at least those who are willing to be PET scanned and graphed) has shown no difference. A few single tests that were done under less than rigorous standards have shown out of the ordinary brain activity, but those tests were never re-created and the results never duplicated under proper testing conditions.
Psychics are good guessers and play to people's hopes. When one wins the lottery TWICE I'll take them seriously. Any one can get lucky once!

Psychic abilities have thus far remained unproven using true
scientific methodology.Where were the psychics BEFORE
Sep.11???Why not pick the correct lottery numbers and really
retire in style?Besides its a good thing we can't read each others
minds!

That's like asking "is there a scientific explanation for why I can fly by flaping my arms?"
You cannot. They cannot read minds. Every repeatable scientific measurement ever made has come up with a negative result.

it has to do with having a very opened mind and able to see everything around you all the time and sensing when things are not right with others and seeing shadow people.
