Our betta fish just died and algea sucker is alone,was wondering if he can stay alone?

yes they can as long as they get lots of sun so the allgie they feed on can grow

Chinese algae eaters don't require tank mates so yes it can live alone. However for the long term a 1-gal tank is kind of small.

With proper care and time, chinese algae eaters have the potential to grow up to 10-12 inches.

1 gallon is hardly a suitable bucket, much less a tank. Look into getting a 30 gallon tank if you want to keep this fish, or find a different, more suitable home for it. A cae in a 1 gallon is like a human living in a phone booth.
