Why can't Roger's Cup be held in different countries each year like the Olympics? And why is it called Roger's Cup?

Tennis players play in tourneys similar to the Rogers Cup all over the world all season long. It's an invitational tournament sponsored by Rogers Communications Corporation. Rogers is a Canadian company so if the tournament was held in an another country Rogers would probably not be the sponsor. There is also a Rogers Cup in Montreal. Canada doesn't have to many elite professional venues for tennis tournaments in high population areas. The Rogers Cup is nothing at all like the Olympics, in case you haven't noticed, every year most of the big name players don't even attend or pull out. The Rogers Cup is not a big deal in the tennis world and is a pretty low key event overall.

The Rogers Cup is not always held in Toronto. The men and the women alternate between Montreal and Toronto. This year the men played in Toronto; tomorrow the women start play in Montreal. Next year the men go to Montreal, the women play in Toronto.

The event used to be called the Candian Open, but since Rogers Communication Corporation is the major sponsor of the tournament, that's why it is called as such.

If you've been to Toronto, you will see that everything is about Roger's. The major stadium is called Roger's. The major phone network is Roger's network, so I guess it always make sense.

Rogers is not going sponsor something that's not held in Canada, since you have to be in Canada to use their services.
