I just read some answers to another question and girls are being called gurls. Have I missed something?? Or is this just another example of poor education?

I think that this is an example of shunning the traditional spellings of words as an outward act of rebellion against mainstream society.
To type "gurl" instead of "girl" is to say "I know its spelled wrong, but you know what I mean, and why should I worry about it if my meaning is being communicated"

I use gurl in my online names sometimes when "girl" has been used already. It sounds the same so I don't mind it that much.
