hi, . perhaps you can try Norton or Mcafee to protect your computer, but you should pay for the software.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

In general it is poor practice to have 2 ACTIVE , RESIDENT, REAL TIME anti-virus apps running at the same time. They will conflict and cause problems.
However, an ON-DEMAND ONLY virus scanner such as BitDefender 8, can generally be used for a second-opinion, with most other anti-spt apps,

Do not install multiple antivirus programs. It will cause serious performance issues. The worst combo is Symantec and McAfee. That will leave your machine nearly unusable.
Some antivirus packages will require you to uninstall any other antivirus software first. The latest corporate version of McAfee does this automatically.
