It's cultural but its not a problem goes back to before the English civil war. Arrogant English and Scots got the foolish idea that they could read the bible and decide what it meant themselves and didn't need to pope to tell them what it meant.
They started thinking that if they could read the bible for themselves, maybe they could govern themselves and started thinking about how that would work.
"Everyone as his is bound to preserve himself, and not to quit his station willfully, so by the like reason, when his own preservation comes not in competition, ought he as much as he can to preserve the rest of mankind, and not unless it be to do justice on an offender, take away or impair the life, or what tends to the preservation of the life, the liberty, health, limb, or goods of another.
…all men may be restrained from invading others’ rights, and from doing hurt to one another…."
I doubt not but it will be objected that it is unreasonable for men to be judges in their own cases, that self-love will make men partial to themselves and their friends; and, on the other side, ill-nature, passion, and revenge will carry them too far in punishing others, and hence nothing but confusion and disorder will follow,…I easily grant that civil government is the proper remedy…." John Locke
Thus the foundation is laid for the idea that one man's freedom ends where the others begin and makes the case for a limited government while at the same time recognising the necessity of government.
Limited government cannot solve all our problems but unlimited government has no need to solve our problems.
There are basically two world views.
…..One view, the Anglo-American, holds that human ability to comprehend, adjudicate, and arrange the world around us is limited; that the only attainable goal is continuously to improve the conditions which enable individuals to achieve the personal best. The other view, predominantly Franco-Germanic, places human reason at the center of our existence, claiming that certain people are capable of comprehending, adjudicating, and arranging the world around us; and that such people are called upon to guide all others toward an increasingly perfect and just world in which all desires will have been either eliminated or satisfied." Balint Vazonyi
The problem with the Franco-German view is that their solution requires that we select some real smart people and just let them handle things. Well, like Naploean, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot that sort of beloved leader.
And we are freaks because the US and UK along with possibly Austrailia are the only places that have significant populations that place some value on "FREEDOM". Although its clear even there it may not be a clear majority.
We find it a bit silly to believe some leader in London, DC or Paris happens to know whats best for every one of the billions of individuals that populate the world in what ever remote village and particular situation in which they find themselves.
I guess we need to just wake up and turn over our lives and futures to some beloved leader and let them make the decisions for us. Good luck with that. If that's a stupid culture I'm a blooming idiot.

Well granted people from the UK are a little messed up with their soccer and driving on the wrong side of the road (I'm just kidding), I can't help but believe that someone whos religon tells them to strap explosives to themselves and blow themselves up is a freak. I'm not saying you are Islamic or Arab, but if anyone is a "freak" I think it would be the guy with a bomb on his chest.

the following is based upon the presumption that you are muslim. if not, it still has some application, but not to you. alot of people are becoming more than slightly irritated by the muslims and their holier than thou attitude. a number of them see the fundamentalist islamist types, especially, as undereducated, violent, misogynistic, troglodytes, living happily inthe 8th century. and all- to- willing to murder anyone who doesn't believe in their literalist drivel. that doesn't strike many of us secularists in the west as being an enlightened and peaceful approach to "all of us getting along together". many of us are trying to be as open minded and tolerant as possible toward all religious points of view, including yours. a number of thinkers on the subject are hoping that "a clash of civilizations" of the type hoped for by the islamo -fascists doesn't come about. so, have a care, you may have more "people", but we have more "nukes", should it, sadly, come to that :-) p.s. if you are hindu, on the other hand, i'm a great fan of the vedas, and comparatively, if i had to choose between the vedic approach and the "desert religions", the choice would be easy. i feel that the vedic belief system is so profound that it must have originated somewhere other than on earth, and then been brought here by generous beings to be shared with the relatively benighted humans!

Which religion? We have every kind here as we have freedom of religion. We are not ruled by the rules of one religion. Separation of church and state. If we are so bad why does every intelligent person in the world want to come here? We are brain draining India and China. Perhaps that is why you think we are freaky . Your intelligent people are no longer there to explain things to you.

Why are they freaks? please elaborate...
I should point out that most people in the UK are hardly religious at all (not like the US who even put God on their money). They're a cynical, indifferent bunch.
