Because they know that we will buy it because we HAVE to. It is crazy how expensive things are. Especially formula & clothes. I'm doing 1/2 breast milk & half formula so it saves me a little bit of money. I also hit the clearence sales. I am fortunate because I have Aunts that help me out and my Mom helps out A LOT. I would suggest hitting garage sales for some of the stuff and clearence sales to help save money. Even with all the help I have it's tough to buy some of the things so I couldn't imagine not having any help. I hope this helps, even if it is a little bit.

They charge so much because they know that they can...the companies realize that moms (new moms especially) want only THE BEST for their babies, and most are willing to spend top dollar to ensure they are getting the best quality. The advertising is over-the-top and tries to make you believe that you "need" certain items (like baby-wipe warmers!!) to be a good parent... It is possible to get high-ticket items for cheaper. Check out craigslist.com, yard sales & ebay, or start a baby-chain with family & friends where you package up the gently-used clothes by size and gender to be passed on to the next person with a baby in that size. Saves so much money and people will surely be adding to the pile as time goes on.

yes baby stuff is quite expensive. . I understand you want new new new. But you gotta get over that. There are plenty of second hand shops and yard sales that will sale baby gear for a fraction of the price in like new condition. You will be glad you did. There is also NOTHING wrong with buying used. Also you can make your own baby food and save TONS of money. Buy the book "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron. You will learn more than you need to know about introducing new foods and how to make and puree your own.

I agree on the new stuff. My 1st pregnancy I always bought clothes at the thrift store as long as it was clean with no holes. But far as crib my daddy bought that for me with the mattress and crib set. I did not have a baby shower, so basically the other stuff family and friends bought them. My baby had got over $300.00 dollars so that helped too. I am pregnant now and I was told that I am having a baby shower (comes in handy) and all the big stuff my b/f is going to buy them like Bassinet, stroller, car seat, anything that cost more than $50.00 that i will need. I feel like people don't have to contribute to your baby shower so I am staying in a low price range(under $50.000) when I do my gift registry. Good Luck!!

You're looking in the wrong places. Try charity shops, and make you own baby food. Don't think that you will get bad quality stuff in charity shops, babies grow so fast that their clothes are practically still new after they have been out grown.
Try looking through ads
in the paper and see if people are selling stuff there as well. You could also look on the baby section of EBay.
Good luck sweetie.

Look for bargains. I have 2 girls. One of them is still in diapers the other was recently potty trained. You can a;ways find things on sale. There's always garage sales and second hand stores for some items. With the baby food it's so much cheaper to buy a food processor and make your own. Congrats on your baby and good luck.

Because they can, it is a small market dirven by a few companies, so they can mae super high prices becuase there is no competition. That is one of the many reasons why having a baby is such a big decision. But look for sales and clip those coupons because things will be tight, but there are always sales out there

you have to think what is the main thing that people do? make babies so if that is the main thing people do what is the main thing people buy? baby stuff there will always be a high demand for baby stuff because people will always have babies and when you sell baby stuff you know you can up the price because people have to have or just want the stuff and therefore you can make a killer profit of baby stuff i actually thought about going into a business making and selling baby stuff! i would be rich hehehe!

they raise the prices b/c they think mothers will buy anything for their baby, and so much is a necessity. But if you don't have a lot of people helping you, you don't need to buy everything. Like don't buy the crib bedding set, buy a bumper and sheets, and I'm sure you will get some blankets. If you don't get things like that, that are necessary you will cut back on cost.
