I am Filipino and white and a lot of people think the I am either Chinese or Mexican. I am not being racist, but I am proud of being Filipino and people don't think that I am. Although I do have minute amount of Spaniard Spanish and Chinese, majority of my race is Filipino and white.

I'm multicultural, Filipino - African American - Native American, but most of my heritage is Filipino. I get mistaken for Guamanian and Hawaiian all the time, and some think I'm from Malaysia - but these comments are always made by Americans. Asians know exactly what I am and fellow Filipinos know it instantly. I used to get so tired of people asking me what I was or guessing wrong, but over the years I just got used to it and embraced my exotic looks. I think a lot of people that are bi and multi-racial have the same experience. People are just curious, I doubt if they mean any harm and most people identify others by what they're familiar with. I embrace all my cultures and I'm proud just like you are.

I never do, I guess they assume that I'm just white, which is sad because I have a lot of heritage and culture in my family. I would have known that you are Filipino from the moment I first met you, but maybe it's because I had a lot of Filipino friends in high school. It seems obvious to me, because Chinese have yellow skin tone and Filipinos clearly do not. I understand why it would be frustrating to you. Try to forgive them for not knowing or trying to know. Maybe you can use it as a time to enrich-en their lives with your unique culture.

Well, I have one Filipino friend, and many more Chines and Mexican friends, The odds of meeting a Filipino are low. So people guess at the statistical favorite.

Get over it.

Yes, often too. I'm mexican indian, spanish, and native american indian, but the guess is european mostly, russian, or arabic. My name is pretty common on that half of the globe so people usually dont guess correctly. I dont let it bother me at all.

I've had people mistake me for Italian because of my dark hair. I'm actually Irish and Welsh... nothing fancy about me at all.
