True, in the US it might be quite inconvenient because of the messy and unreliable bus schedules, but for the rest of the planet- especially Europe it's quite essencial, especially for the young people.
I used to have a bus pass when I was studying in the US too :)) But guys where always happy to offer a ride whenever i needed :)

It depends where you live and how old you are. Some places you don't need a car. OK. If not, are you college age? OK If you are an adult and your car broke down OK But if your an adult and that is your only means of transportation in a place where you need a car, then problem. It shows lack of responsibily or ambition. At least an old junker, an old car the runs great very acceptable but nothing, problem.
