You may have allergies. When allergy is the cause of the mucus, the condition is called rhinitis. In addition to the excess mucus, the nose may also be runny, blocked up, itchy, and people sneeze a lot. An accumulation of droppings from house dust mites are commonly responsible for the irritation. House dust mites are found in particularly high numbers in the bedrooms in almost every household, in the pillows and mattress. So try washing your bedlinen regularly at high temperatures, and invest in special anti-allergy mattress and pillow covers.

Hi. Mucous is produced by the goblet cells in the lining of the epithelial cells. These mucous membrane aids in protection of your respiratory health as the traps foreign particles, e.g. dust and the like. A dusty or dirty environment will cause mucous to be produced and discharging the mucous will ensure that the trapped particles are discharged together.
Increased mucus production in the respiratory tract is a symptom of many common diseases, such as the common cold. The presence of mucus in the nose and throat is normal, but increased quantities can impede comfortable breathing and must be cleared by blowing the nose or expectorating phlegm from the throat. Among the components of nasal mucus are tears.

Well, don't stop it as its actually good in a sense. Mucous dries up eventually and this is a sign that teh nose is functioning properly.

If you think that production of mucous is interfering with you daily life, then seek medical attention. I'm sure your doctor will explain the matter in greater details. God bless!
