The sound is very faint and increasing volume to max dosen't help. These are important tapes of my past. Please can anyone help.

Maybe it's the VCR rather than the VHS. Try using a video head cleaner, though I'm not sure if you can buy those things any more.

Well if you've cleaned the heads of the VCR and things aren't better I'm affraid the tapes themselves might be degrading. The coating on VHS tapes doesn't last forever unfortunately, just like to old movies that were shot on film decades ago. Have you tried to view them on different VCRs????

if you have tried cleaning ur vhs player and tape im afraid your videos might be feeling a little overused. VHS tends to go a little wonky with time....the picture and sound disintregrates with time. they really should have told us this when we started buying them. the only way to resolve this is to buy a new copy unfortunately. ive had the same problem, so am currently updating my VHS collection to DVD.
