I don't know if it is a turtle or a tortise, i cant even find a picture of its species...
its small about the size of your palm, it has a domed shell with a long yellow ridge in the middle, its color varies from yellow to brownish black, it has long arms and tiny claws, its tail is small and skinny, it has big eyes and a beak like mouth, its head and legs are grey and it has a dim yellow stripe behind each eye. I found it floating in my pool and i would like to keep it, please offer any information you can!!!!

it doesn't sound like a box turtle because they don't rilly have a yellow stripe down there back and it sort of ounds like snapping turtle with long legs and big eyes and grey skin
i have had a box turtle before baby actually and i wanted to let it go because box and snapping do not belong as a pet
don't keep it scoop it up and put it in a pond or something so it will have a chance to live and get it out of your pool because pools have clorine and clorine hurts turtles and frogs and other things and it might not even be a water turtle becaue boxing turtles oren't water turtles
if you plan on keeping here is a list of things you need to feed it
berries
tomatos
chicken
soaked cat food (no diet)
soaked dog kibble(no diet)
feed it carrot tops
little cabbage
spinich
asparagus raw not cooked!
feed it moslty greens if you not sure look it up on google!
fruits sush as:
apple
berries
grapes
and others
i had fed my turtle all that and chop the fodd up into rilly tiny peices so it can ieat it
<333 good luck

That is what we call a Tarrapin >>> Terrapin may mean:
Certain reptiles of the order Testudines, with the exact definition varying, see turtle
specifically the diamondback terrapin
The mascot of the sports teams at the University of Maryland, College Park, specifically the diamondback terrapin. The slang word for Terrapin adopted by the students of the University of Maryland is "Terp". The official mascott of the University of Maryland is Testudo the terrapin turtle.

You didn't mention where you live, but I would guess that you have a type of slider turtle. They require expensive upkeep and can carry salmonella. I would let it go. That would be better for you and the turtle. If you absolutely must keep it, make sure you have the proper habitat, UVB lighting and heat source. You must also have reptisafe to get the chlorine out of the water.

It looks like it's from a pet store. Maybe someone had it as a pet, then let it loose because they didn't want it anymore...? Check online for pet turtles and see if any of them match this one's description. what are you going to do with the little guy?

Most definitely a box turtle, probably an ornate box depending on where you live. I don't recommend keeping it as most wild-caught reptiles take very poorly to captivity, the stress can lower their immune system and cause health problems... However, if you plan to keep him, or just want to learn more about them in general, check out http://www.boxturtlesite.org/

looks like a snapping turtle or box to me...but the pics are a bit blurry so it's hard to tell. google or yahoo those 2 species for more info.
i have no idea if you can keep a wild turtle, but if you go to your pet store and ask, i bet they could help. you'll definitely want to get turtle food, a tank, and clean fresh water for him/her immediately though, or put it back in the wild away from the pool. good luck though!

Looks like a box turtle.
Think a minute before you decide to keep him. He is storing food for his hibernation in winter. If you decide close to winter or in the middle of winter you don't want him. He is going to die.
My advise is turn him loose.
