How could you let rock deteriorate to what its become today? A bunch of cookie-cutter corporate pop-punk bands hanging out on whatever the latest MTV self-promotional 30 minute infomerical they've got and you just eat it up....you've let rock die. Since the 50's, rock has been about a big middle finger to the establishment and teenagers are responsible for keeping that torch alive. But instead, you're all on iTunes and and going to Hot Topic to buy whatever the latest trendy crap they feed you and you call it punk or metal....It's sickening. What happened to this generation? I know I can't be the only person that feels this way...

I couldn't have said it any better. I blame MTV and the media in general. They've conditioned today's youth to blindly accept almost anything as viable entertainment. Rock music used to be about art, expression and rebellion. Now, it's about image, fashion and greed. Sickening, indeed!

What's popular from time to time always changes, and people will always consider "their" music superior. You look down on today's mainstream corporate pop-punk band the same way your parents' generation probably looked at your rock music. You're thinking "What the hell is this crap they call music? Why isn't it good like it was in the good ol' days?" And that's exactly what your parents' generation thought about you.

I don't like the new stuff, either, but whatever-- I guess times change. It's unfortunate.

Ya ya, it's all been said before. Look at the 60's and 70's, amazing bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Van Halen. That style has the impression of being vanished in our society today. But there are SOME good bands, and I'm not talking about bands as popular as the so-called punk bands like Green Day and Simple Plan.

People like what they like, though, and I don't think one thread can change music.

THANK YOU!!! Back when rock was rock and punks where still punks. and to think one day one of them is going to be president .the same time respect went out the door now i will say there are some with it but to find it takes time seems like if they meaning the rock group as so to speak really knew society and the influence they portray on these kids and they had to DEAl with them opposed to the ones home grown country /real ,rock/roll life would be much more meaningful and caring, less violence also. YOU HAVE A VERY GOOD POINT..

well, that's a generalization. yeah, alot of kids consider themselves punk because they listen to the five minutes of rock in between stupid reality shows on MTV. but there are alot of kids out there that are really into the real rock and that are trying to keep that alive.

So why don't you do something? there are lots of kids who like "classic rock"...but the problem is its still only classic rock. know why lots dont listen to it? because they don't make it anymore! as soon as a band comes out that can give us true rock back, maybe they'll listen. they listen to what they can get. teens years ago wanted something new, fresh and something that tells every one to shove it, this is what itunes is giving teens. a new sound, same message. whats wrong with that?

Sounds like you just read my mind. I've been playing lead guitar since '69. I played several instruments in elementary school and high school. In other words, I KNOW music.
We all know rap isn't music.
This 'new' rock is mostly crap as well.
Thanks for asking this question. Maybe a few people will be 'awakened', but I kinda doubt it.

Nope, I feel the exact same way man. There are very few actual rock bands out there. I just think it's funny. There are a few bands out there who are pretty good, but not many.

Thank God! Finally there is confirmation I am not alone! I HATE listening to the radio! That is not music on there. And MTV?! It is called MUSIC TELEVISION. Yeah, right! What music?! I was watching when it debuted! I am so disappointed! Rock on, man!
