If you were a complete stranger on an open street I won't even make eye contact. If you were in a hotel elevator with me while I was on vacation I would say hi. If I knew you from school or work I would usually say hi except if I was distracted by something that concerned me. Don't take it personally either way.

Yes, I would, because I am a friendly person. I say hi and have conversations with complete strangers. It doesn't seem to matter what age, race or what you're wearing. So, hey, even though we're not on the street, "Hi!"

Except for a busy place, I like to say Hi to people walking past me....It is ashame that it does not happen to much these days.

YES...I try to always make eye contact with people and at least smile or nod....often verbally say hi.

I live in a small village in the mountains in Spain and everyone says "hola" to everyone else, so I probably would : )
