Hello i have seen this problem many times the most overlooked is the air pressure in the tires will change the gear ratio witch will cause to jump in and out four low,hi and or all usually a lot of people think it is the 4x4 indicator switch located on the dash sometimes it is or it can be the the 4x4 actuator switch located on the front axle but usually i have seen in the past is the computer control located on passenger side kick board in the dash board on the side wall by the door 9 times out of ten it has been a result of the computer control going bad this is an expensive unit but you can usually get it on e-bay for a lot less usually when this happens the 4x4 indicator switch will flash all lights all the time and yes you can feel the four wheel drive going in and out good luck

i have run across this problem before,,if it is one of the one that is eclectically operated,,it is the switch going bad,,if it is a manual one that has the shifter in the floor,it may be that it it has a bad control unit on it,,,and no just to clear the air here,,your transmission is not going out on you,,if you can actually feel it shift in to 4 wheel drive,,then it needs to be taken to a transmission shop,,and have them check it ot for you,,having them look at it for you is free,,if you will do this before you make any attempt to repair it,,you might save your self some money,,it may just be something simple,,i would suggest that you do this,,it will help you in the long run because i guarantee you that you will get more than one opinion on it,,and they will probably different also,,like i said i do it for a living,,i hope this helps.

Is it actually doing this, or is it just display lights doing that? Sounds like a switch is shorting out, or the engagement under the truck is screwing up, probably from damaged wires or leaking oil and such. Is hard to determine without actually seeing. Maybe try the dealer(I know), but it is what they are there for. May have a recall on it, and might get repaired for free. Just don't hold your breath for it.

properly you probably did no longer say if it became computerized or instruction manual yet i'm assuming it relatively is computerized shift.it is you push a button to alter it over. the two you have broken the solenoid on the component of the flow case or probable bent the linkage or possibly broke a cord or the plug the place it hooks into the component of the flow case.
