Next week my local speedway is going to have a "soap-box derby". It's a full-contact race and the track is going to be soaked beforehand with soapy water by a fire truck. Do other tracks have this sort of thing, or is it their own innovation?

Nope. I've seen 'em before, at the Seekonk Speedway. It was pretty awesome, you should definitely see it.

I think someone is pulling your leg. Soap box derby is making your own car from what was typically large soap boxes. The race was down hill and not around a track. There is no engine in this contraption which often fell apart. This is a fun, kid thing.
I would not race on a track with soapy water and would not put soapy water in the fire truck tank.

I've heard of Orlando Speed World in Florida (duh) doing this. I have never seen it, but it sounds like a royal blast.
