Yes. It has really become an issue when the top leader (Bush) and his followers can implement plans, make decisions and make such terrible mistakes that impact the lives of all Americans for many generations to come. There is gross corruption. Invading Iraq was a bad decision. They never had any definite info. on any WMD. They wanted oil. The illegal immigration problem is not being handled properly. Big corporations want those people here to do jobs Americans will do only they do them at slave wages which puts more money in the business owners bank account. Our govt. is helping big corp. by allowing the illegal immgrants to stay and is considering giving them amnesty for breaking our laws.(not right!)Our govt. doesn't care that Americans foot the tax bill for the tax paid programs those illegal immigrants live off of. Our taxes have soared. This affects ALL Americans and it is nothing but governmental corruption. I believe it is much worse than what the everyday citizen can see or even knows about. I think it is very bad.

Its bad, but not a major issue.
I'm guessing that <10% of politicians are corrupt. But those ones that are, are BAD...
Stealing funds is probably VERY common on the low level as it is nearly transparent.
One example is our ex mayor ordered a swat team to raid her ex boyfriends house, over accusations he vandalized her good friends (the ex mayors) car.
Swat team raided his home, some medical issue happened, ordeal took a few hours, and bottom line, all charges against him dropped, and the issue was dropped from the news.
And it turns out the car fire was started by a handyman who happened to have gasoline soaked rags in the back of the ex mayors BMW while he was smoking cigarettes.
THAT is corruption AND abuse of power. Suggesting a deeper story. However, at the local level, anyone who questions those in power are in direct threat.
Another form of corruption I think is the ability to vote themselves pay raises OVER AND OVER every year. Then raise taxes because somehow they need more money.
Bottom line, I think any accusation towards local government deservs honest viewing by the Feds. Complaining about local govt, TO local govt helps ZERO.... Getting you nothing but harassment by the police.

Corruption exists all around us. I'm not even sure I trust you with a name like Scam.
History is riddled with corruption and it never ends it just metamorphoses from one administration to the other. They employ various techniques but mainly they use a variation of some theme or other method that has worked well for a previous administration.

Some places more than others. You want to see the pentacle of corruption look at the effects of Katrina in New Orleans. The local and state politicians should all be brought up on charges.

Of course government corruption exiss in teh US. Democracy, in any state, is prone to imperfection and human fallacy because it is made by humans. I think though, that because of the checks and balances systems that do exists, and partly because of the tenacity of the press to keep the public informed and to discover governemnt misdeeds keeps the amount of corruption, though immeasurable, lower than elsewhere.

The Congress doesn't vote themselves a pay raise every year. Awhile back they got so much heat for doing that that they passed a law saying that they would automatically get one every year. They would have to vote to not get a pay raise. Several Democratic members of Congress have tried to get a vote to fore go the raise. Each time the Republican controlled Congress hasn't let it come to vote.

it's quite bad, mainly to do with lobbyists earmarking funding from govt sources to themselves. check out how many new condos are under construction in DC, there are 4 times as many lobbyists as 10 years ago.
