it's a blending of languages, developed in europe.
It's a germanic language and has it's origin in Celtic. The Romans at a time invaded England and enforced Latin which is why we have so many latin words. Germanic invasions brought by the Anglos, Saxons, and Jutes brought their forms of Germanic as well as the Vikings who brought their form of Germanic.
English is now fundamentally Germanic with a large Norse influence (words like knife), many French loan words (words like mutton), and some Celtic residual.

based off languages such as German I believe, German is to be one of the oldest Eastern languages, comparitive to that of Latin. The time as Latin fused with the church and rome, took over Germanic tribes, the language was formed with the integration of the later saxons, moving to england. The bible, and teachings were also converted from Latin to German, eventually english (Martin Luther)... Hence, word for word, the bible is closest to German when translated.
