i think it's pretty obvious to a rational mind that the idea of multiple gods is uncannily illogical.

the more pertinent question is whether we've probably gone a little too far in giving "god" such a definite identity as to refer to idea as a person or "him".

i do think that a person should be able to denounce any mentions of the existence of god simply due to the lack of any evidence thereof, without being brabded as an atheist.

what is atheism but a strong, rational outlook that is averse to INVENT "truths"

The reason for many religions is that as time progressed, the message deteriorated and man's technology was not up to the task of preserving the words and the meaning. Therefore, many prohpets or messengers had to come to enlighten people. On the other hand, after the Islam, God decreed that indeed man had indeed evolved to the point and the technology was up to the task of preserving the words and their meaning so there was no further need for another religion. Hence Islam being the last religion and Mohammad the last messenger.

Still however, God maintains that all major religions such as judaism, and christianity were indeed originated from him but during the course of time, their message and meaning had deteriorated and lost to the point of them being not acceptable anymore.

The ultimate message of a religion is that of the recognition of the fact that indeed there is and always have been One God and that the man is ultimately responsible for everthing he or she does on this earth and that free will carries with it a price and everyone is responsible for their actions.

So man is urged to set aside all pity and vain urges and strive to become better through peace, harmony, and doing good and whoever says otherwise is trying to destort this fact. God is all about peace and harmony and if you're not sure about that, just loook at the earth and see how he made so many different animals, plants, and many other living creatures live in relative peace and harmony and you'll know the truth in your heart.

I used to be a heavy bible basher. Then as went on in my young adulthood, and moved from christian church to christian church as i moved house, I discovered that each christian denomination had different beliefs.

One believed that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit were one, in a Holy Trinity. Another believed they were three separate entities.

One believed that God and Jesus were physical beings, another believed they were spiritual.

One believed that God was omnipresent and all around us, another believed he lived at a particular place in the universe.

I'm not arrogant enough to close my mind and become atheist, and I do believe there is something there.

I had an interesting conversation only yesterday with someone who was saying "God this, Jesus that" with no substance. She was saying things like, "God did this for me, I thank God for that." I turned to her and said, "Don't give God all the credit - give yourself credit too. God's given you free will, a lot of the things you've done good to yourself with no-one else's help. Give yourself some credit too." For the first time I've known her, she was speechless...

Another story she told yesterday was, "As a child, I saw Jesus." and then recounted the story to us. And that is why she believes so strongly in Jesus. As a child she was asking Jesus/God to prove he existed before she would believe, and then month later, her prayers were answered.

I asked her, "Wouldn't it be that easy if everyone who asked for proof received it, then we'd all be in agreement"

The fact is - we cannot agree. Even christians cannot agree who are what God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are.

A couple of theories I like to throw in to see reactions are:
1) "God" is a collective mind, there is a link between all our minds. Ant Colony mentality
2) Look at our own technology. Computers are advancing at an alarming rate. Chips are getting smaller. AI is getting more advanced. Robotics are getting more and more advanced. Now we're seeing optical computers instead of electrical. We're starting to see bio-circuits instead of silicon. Project into the future, where we've created intelligent, bio circuits, and we've conquered spaced exploration, come across a suitable planet, and pop our creations onto the planet and sit back and observe... Isn't that what we are - the creations of some higher intelligence perhaps?

It's a fascinating subject.

I'm a Buddhist, so I'll pose an alternative response. Could it be possible that we are uncreated? If so, it's hard to find a Creator when one doesn't exist. (Not refuting God or gods existence, just a property of them.) That might explain why so many opinions on religion exist.

There is a lot of hate in this world, and a lot of people use God and Religion as a means to hate and feel justified in doing so.
