There are a lot of ways to classify that. one would be via Maslow's hierarchy of needs: two people performing the same act may be doing it for very different reasons, depending on where they were in acquiring their needs.
The results can also be examined in an ethical framework, but there are many ethical frameworks too (teleology, deontology, etc).
So that's a big questions with lots of answers.
